Member Media Release: First Modular Container-Based Hotel for Days Inn

TORONTO, ON (December 9, 2014)Realstar Hospitality is expanding its portfolio with the opening of its latest newly constructed franchised property in northwestern Ontario, Days Inn – Sioux Lookout.

A first for the brand in Canada, the hotel rooms are constructed using prefabricated modular units based on steel shipping containers. The completed design uses 120 containers that were retrofitted into bedrooms, shipped by truck and simply interconnected on site. Once assembled, this 60 room shipping container-based modular hotel is virtually indistinguishable from a conventional site-constructed building.

“We are proud to be a part of a growing and well recognized hotel brand and look forward to building lasting relationships with guests and members of our community,” said Joseph Lamb, General Manager, Days Inn – Sioux Lookout. “Our friendly hospitality, exceptional service and welcoming ambience will ensure guests feel at home during their stay.”

With convenient access to area attractions, the 100% smoke free hotel features on-site amenities including free Daybreak Café breakfast, bar lounge area and a fitness room. Each spacious modern guest room has free Wi-Fi Internet access, a 40-inch LCD TV, coffee maker, iron and hair dryer. Days Inn – Sioux Lookout is pet friendly and offers cold weather hookup, free parking along with generous conference space for up to 275 people and banquet space for up to 100 people.

“The method used to construct this hotel demonstrates the commitment our franchisees have to productivity and innovation. Without this technique, it would not have been possible to cost-effectively build a hotel on the site,” said Irwin Prince, president & coo, Realstar Hospitality. “With great opportunities for continued development in a multitude of markets across the country, Days Inn – Sioux Lookout is a highly anticipated addition to our portfolio of hotels.
