Franchising in Your Community

Franchising Gives Back During Crisis

The franchise community has stepped up to give back during the COVID-19 crisis. Here we provide a closer look at these initiatives through social media posts shared by Canadian franchises and support services/suppliers.

Innovative Packaging

In an effort to quell public health concerns surrounding food service, Pizza Pizza has introduced its new “tamper-proof” packaging. The new boxes include a new cardboard-locking mechanism that can’t be opened without breaking a seal. The iconic Canadian pizza franchise has also been offering contact-less delivery since March 18th. The company has also donated more than 20,000 pizza slices to front-line medical workers.

Feeding Local Communities

Smoke’s Poutinerie celebrated National Poutine Day on Saturday by donating four pounds of potatoes for every poutine sold to local food banks in partnership with SyscoCanada. KFC Canada (a YUM! Brands Subsidiary) is also feeding local communities by donating unsold chicken to charities across Canada.

Flattening the Curve

Doing their part to flatten the curve of the pandemic, Algonquin College  has donated thousands of pieces of protective equipment and is loaning at least nine ventilators to help health care facilities prepare for COVID-19 patients. The donation  included 125,000 gloves, more than 7,000 masks, 200 pairs of glasses and goggles, and 100 protective gowns.
